Chargeback Evidence Checklist
For Shopify stores using Shopify Payments. Check the items that apply to your dispute type — then copy the pre-submit summary and paste it into your response.
Not legal or financial advice. The customer's bank and card network make the final decision — strong evidence improves your odds, it doesn't guarantee a win.
Private by design: everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter or check is saved (not even in this browser) or sent anywhere.
Step 1 — Chargeback or inquiry?
The two work differently. Pick yours to see what happens to your money.
Chargeback: the disputed amount and the chargeback fee are taken from you immediately. If you win, both are returned.
Before you start (every dispute)
These apply no matter which dispute type you pick below.
Your evidence deadline
The exact due date is on the chargeback banner in the order.
Enter your due date to see how many days you have left.
Deadlines are typically 7–21 days after the chargeback is filed. After the due date you can't add evidence — Shopify sends only what's auto-filled, and the result is final.
Step 2 — Pick your dispute type
Only the evidence for your type is shown. The "Before you start" items above always apply.
Pick a dispute type above to see its evidence checklist.
1. Fraudulent transaction
Before gathering evidence
2. Duplicate charge
3. Subscription canceled
4. Product not received

5. Product unacceptable
6. Credit not processed
7. General
What happens after you submit
- The card company reviews your response — this can take up to 75 days after you submit.
- Partial wins exist: you can get some of the disputed amount back.
- The decision is final. There is no appeal.
If the customer agrees to drop it
Still submit evidence. Ask the customer to get a withdrawal letter from their bank (bank letterhead, case number, original charge date + amount, your store name, confirmation the chargeback is canceled and funds returned to you), then submit it through the Chargeback response form. Banks can take 30–90 days to update.
Your pre-submit summary
Everything you checked, in one copy-ready text. Paste it into your response or keep it as your record.
